PoE3 (IEEE 802.3af/at) Power-over-Ethernet Tester

The PoE3 provides diagnostic functional testing of 24 PSE ports compatible with IEEE Standards 802.3af and 802.3at. It can draw up to 720mA per port while passing gigabit traffic. It provides high density with 24 Powered Device (PD) loads in a 1U high chassis. There is also a PoE3 8 port version available.

Each PoE section has a “UUT” and a “REF” port. The UUT port is connected to the PSE and acts as a PD load to that port. The UUT data path is connected via power-isolating magnetics to the REF port. In this way, an external data bit error tester or PSE test functionality can be used to test data integrity while the power load is enabled.

The PoE3 is a 1U high enclosure with 24 UUT ports.

  • Low cost compared to compliance-level PD emulators.
  • Universal voltage (110/220) power supply. Order an optional accessory kit to get a six-foot AC power cord with an IEC 320 C13 connector with a mating outlet type to match your region and a console cable with either a DB9 or USB connection.
  • Serial RS-232 console control.
Production of PoE3 testers was discontinued in August 2020 as components became difficult to obtain. We recommend customers use PoE5 and PoE4N/10G testers which support 10G speeds and 802.3af, at, and bt specifications. If you are using the loopback or programmable detect current features, they are not available in our PoE5 and PoE4/10G units. Please contact us to discuss your options.
