My end product will have a 5-7 year lifetime. Will the controller board be supported for that long?
Reach Technology began in 1988 and is still supporting products designed in the mid-1990s. As long as there are customers for a particular board and parts are available, we will continue to make it. Our job is to keep the product current and deal with part obsolescence issues. The user interface will stay the same. Read more about our commitment to long-term supply.
Does a module exist that is ultra low power and can work from a battery?
We do not have a low-power battery version at this time. Customers have used the 4.3″ display with a battery, but it is not specifically ultra-low power.
Do I need to use a gasket between the display module and my front panel, or can I mount the module directly to the front panel?
Mounting the LCD and touch panel directly against the chassis front panel is not recommended. The panel specifications for all of our display modules show how the LCD and touch panel will be mounted. It must have a gasket, and we offer silicon foam gaskets for some of our modules. You will need to use a “soft” gasket and plan on some tension on the display module mounting tabs, but you should not plan on flexing the tabs. You will need to use stand-offs or spacers between the front bezel and the display module to ensure that you can apply enough pressure to compress the gasket to get a seal but not so much pressure as to flex the mounting tabs. I need a gasket/buffer material between your display module and my front panel. Who makes these?
We use die-cut gaskets for our enclosed units from Precision Die Cutting. The material we use is a black silicone foam product called “HT-800.” You can also check with Gasket Specialties about the products they offer. Reach Technology offers gaskets for some modules. Could you provide some guidance in mounting in a bezel?
Check in the Panel Specifications for your display module. They often contain mounting guidelines. If not, you can also refer to the general policies in one of these documents: Resistive Touchscreen Integration Projected Capacitive Touchscreen Integration
I need an enclosure for the 4.3” module. Do you have a solution?
We have not had a lot of demand for an Enclosed 4.3” unit, so we have not developed one of our standard NEMA enclosures. Search the site for available enclosed units. We are looking for a customer or set of customers interested in purchasing more than 100 units to justify the development of such an enclosure. If you are such a customer, please contact our sales team. Here are some other options to consider: Several customers have used plastic electronic enclosures (often hand-held) from Polycase and Bud Industries. Several use Lexan between the screen and the enclosure. One customer has developed a bench-top enclosure to house our product. Do you offer multi-touch screens?
We do not offer any displays with multi-touch. Our GUI items do not include any elements that can use multi-touch.
